KEEP™ - Knowledge Engineering Execution Process

Overview of KEEP™

KEEP™ is the main service offering of MetaAgility. KEEP is the process that MetaAgility uses when assisting clients.

The execution of KEEP may be transferred to clients.

The main target of KEEP is likely to be the R&D organisation (including IT development), where it acts as a productivity accelerator.

KEEP Objectives

  • To provide a systematic business case oriented approach to business knowledge processing.
  • To systematically support the core business development decision making processes with timely and relevant knowledge.
  • To systematically allocate knowledge creation and development effort where maximal business benefits can be expected.

KEEP Effort Allocation Phase

Where is the pay-back of KE likely to be biggest? To answer this question a number of aspects have to be considered.

Business knowledge aspects affecting effort allocation:

  • Critical business knowledge
  • Business performance problems
  • Multidisciplinary interfaces
  • Distributed business development activity
  • Diverse organisations - mergers?
  • Domain complexity
  • Distributed knowledge dependencies
  • Business precision requirements
  • Business agility requirements
  • Knowledge refinement along a scale from tacit knowledge to formally defined knowledge with explicitly defined processing semantics
    • Current knowledge refinement
    • Required knowledge refinement
  • Knowledge ownership and dependencies - process buy-in
  • Knowledge security
  • Predicted knowledge longevity
  • IP and other legal issues
  • ROI prediction
    • Savings
    • Time to market
    • Competitiveness

Pre-Project Probing Assessments:

  • Organisation performance
  • Organisation capability

The aim of the organisation assessment and effort allocation activity is to produce a KEEP project plan.

KEEP Project Phase

  • Project Start
    • Definition of scope, timescales and objectives
    • Resources
    • Responsibilities

  • Initial Project Assessment (using existing performance data and stratified random allocation of structured interviews)
    • Detailed performance assessment of targeted organisation
    • Detailed capability assessment of targeted organisation

  • Project Execution
    • Training and Tooling (including interactive e-training on KEEP and its tools)
    • Knowledge development (using feed-back intensive processes like DSDM or SCRUM)
    • Use of refined knowledge in production (including e-training using the developed knowledge)

  • Final Project Assessment
    • Detailed performance assessment of targeted organisation
    • Detailed capability assessment of targeted organisation

KEEP Project Evaluation Phase

  • ROI achieved
  • Experiences for the next KEEP project - next step recommendations
  • Experiences which may be used to improve KEEP and the KEEP tools involved
