The etc directory is the traditional location for global configuration data. This is where the KIX authentication users file, with pairs of userid and encrypted passwords, should be held.

The users file is easiest created and maintained using the htpasswd utility.

The etc directory is normally also the location for the crontab file. This files controls the cron jobs. The current version of KIX relies on such jobs for e-mail distribution and advanced features when automatic actions as a result of event in remote (federated) dependency documents.
