data - The KIX data directory

Each configured instance of KIX should have its own data diretory. This is where the databases associated with that instance are held.

In order to use an instance of KIX for the first time the main KIX database needs to be initialised. This is done using the init_kixfw script.

Since the init_kixfw script is specific to each instance of KIX it is recommended that it is installed in the KIX data directory.

To initialise a main KIX database use the init_kixfw command without command line arguments and follow the instructions.

The KIX data directory may also hold a repository directory. This is a new option from the KixFw-1.12 release. If this file-based repository is configured in the cfw_kix.pm configuration file then the contents of the KIX document versions are stored in normal files rather than in the KIX database. This makes the KIX database file much smaller and provides increased data integrity.

Once the main kixfw framework script has been executed there may be one or two further databases created in the KIX data directory. There may for example be an auxiliary database to which KIX plugin data may be exported.

There may also be an X3P cache database for storing temporary copies of federated KIX server data and descriptions of the X3P sessions which are used to communicate with other KIX servers. This database only contains temporary information and it can always be removed in order to create a clean state with respect to remote KIX communication.
